Will Your Wedding Dress Ever Date? Perhaps That's Missing the Point.

Will Your Wedding Dress Ever Date? Perhaps That's Missing the Point.

Few questions divide the bridal world quite like this one: Should you choose a wedding dress that will never date?

It's an admirable ambition. Brides often arrive armed with photographs of Grace Kelly, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy or their mother's wedding album, searching for that elusive quality we like to call timeless. A gown that will look just as beautiful in fifty years as it does today.

But history has a funny way of proving us wrong.

The leg of mutton sleeves of the eighties. The dropped waists of the twenties. The crochet lace of the early 2010s. Every generation quietly insists it has finally discovered timelessness, only for the next to lovingly identify exactly when the photograph was taken.

And perhaps that's the romance of it.

A wedding dress is more than an object of design, it is a love letter to a moment in time. It should carry the spirit of the woman who wore it, the world she lived in, and the joy of the day she said yes. Why should we ask it to pretend it belongs to another decade?

At Hera Couture, we have always believed there is a difference between trend and endurance. Trends are fleeting details. Endurance comes from proportion, exceptional craftsmanship and an understanding of the female silhouette. These are qualities that never lose their relevance, even as fashion continues to evolve.

So should your wedding dress date?  Perhaps just a little.

After all, no one has ever looked back at a wedding photograph and wished it contained less of who they were. The most memorable gowns are not the ones that escape time entirely, they are the ones that capture it beautifully.

Besides, if fashion teaches us anything, it's this: give it thirty years, and your granddaughter will probably call it vintage and ask if she can borrow it.
