Rosalie and Myles

Piha, Auckland

Mum came with me to the consultation, it was emotional & perfect. It’s funny, the first dress I tried on was the Zappa Gown - turns out it was the last too!

I tried a few different styles, but I was so drawn to the simplicity and fit of the Zappa. What really impressed me was the whole experience itself. I felt so special, as though the team would do anything to help me. I also felt so comfortable, it wasn’t just the service but the nature of each staff member. From Sharon who walked me through all the styles, to the lovely lady behind the reception desk - everyone made such an effort to understand me and what I was looking for. It made a real impact on the whole experience.

I had a few fittings each month or so, we adjusted the straps and size of the gown - it was also a nice chance to play around with jewellery, shoes, hairstyles and the veil. I think I cried at every fitting & only got increasingly more emotional each time. I loved it.

Describe your style.

Classic with a hint of Rock ‘n Roll.  It was important to me that I had a traditional gown – white, long & with a veil. It was just something I’d always dreamed of wearing so I didn’t want to stray too far from my vision.  In saying that, I also wanted a hint of something fun – big bows on my heels and a dramatic veil covered in pearls did just that. I actually found my veil in a second hand bridal shop earlier that year. Hera altered it for me and it happened to compliment the dress perfectly. I envisioned diamonds alongside pearls, so I paired the veil with diamond earrings from Naveya & Sloane.

Myles and his groomsmen wore Stolen Girlfriends Club suits. The blazers were oversized and pants wide-leg. Without even speaking to Myles about it, we both managed to wear something classic with a retro element. Soulmates.

Tell us about your special day.

Myles and I fell in love in Piha and he proposed on Lion Rock (in Piha) – so it only seemed right that we tied the knot in Piha too.

We held the ceremony in a Nikou Rainforest. We stumbled across the clearing a year before the wedding and knew we could make it work! It look a village, but we managed to pull it off. Out florist, Ruth Fiona, drilled holes in the ground and planted single stemmed roses, we borrowed a driftwood arch, set up a Champagne bar & music and made it our home for a few hours.

The reception was on lawn at Myles family bach – it wasn’t easy as we planned everything ourselves – but seeing it on the night was a dream come true.
We had dried hydrangea chandeliers which our mothers made a few days earlier, vintage candlestick holders and quirky dried flower arrangements scattered around the marquees. There were shots at the bar, Shisha pillow lounges and guests in bare feet. Exactly the kind of vibe we wanted – festival-chic.

I feel so lucky to have married my best friend – thank you Hera for making me feel so beautiful on that special day.
